How to Make this Stunning Hot Foiled Christmas Card

Featuring “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” Press Plates by Spellbinders

Hello and welcome to my studio! I am happy you are here today because I so enjoy being a part of the crafting community. And Christmas is just a few weeks away and what better time to get crafty! I am so excited about all of the possibilities this season has to offer.

Did you know that press plates are also hot foil plates? I did not know this until recently. I purchased the Glimmer Hot Foil machine by Spellbinders a few months ago. But when I started collecting hot foil plates I was a bit disappointed by how few hot foil plates were on offer. All I could find were press plates for the BetterPress system. That is until I realized the press plates can also be used as hot foil plates. Now that I know this, I’ve started collecting more and more plates. And this project today uses one of those press plates with foil and the Glimmer Hot Foil machine. Below, I’ve included a list of supplies along with the steps for creating this stunning Christmas card.

Supplies I Used to Make this Card

  • CARD STOCK: WHITE
  • CARD STOCK: RED
  • FOILED CARD STOCK: GOLD

  • DIE CUTTING/ EMBOSSING MACHINE
  • GLIMMER HOT FOIL MACHINE

Let’s Get Krafty

  1. Firstly, go to my free design in Cricut Design Space HERE. And use your Cricut machine to cut out the 4 x 5.15” ornament shape along with the gold ornament cap.
  2. Next, create an A2 (4.25 x 5.5”) card base using white card stock.
  3. Then create a 4 x 5.25” panel from white card stock and use a winter or Christmas themed embossing folder to emboss the panel. Set it aside.
  4. Take the “It’s the Most Wonderful Time…” press plate and a piece of Glimmer Hot Foil- GOLD and use the Glimmer Hot Foil machine to foil the design onto one of the ornaments. See video below.
  5. Once you have removed the foil to reveal your lovely design on your red ornament shape, go ahead and add the gold ornament cap at the top.
  6. Now, adhere your decorated ornament onto the embossed panel using foam tape or foam dots so that it’s raised up from the panel.
  7. Next, adhere the panel onto your card base using glue or a permanent tape runner. Then attach a bow at the top to finish the design.
  8. Lastly, use a sentiment stamp and ink and stamp a Christmas message to the inside of the card. OR use an app like Google Docs to create your own message for the inside.

Keeping it Krafty

In closing, I’d like to thank you for visiting, it really means a lot to me! If you love this card but are new to the hot foiling technique, use this LINK to see a helpful tutorial by Spellbinders. If you do not have a Cricut machine, you can use a large 4 inch circle die to create your own ornament. This Christmas card may seem a bit involved but once you’ve made one, you will be able to make several more in just a few minutes. I made 5 of these exact cards in less than 30 minutes. And that’s not too bad at all. There are several ways to use this press plate to create beautiful Christmas cards. You can change up the colors or leave off the ornament and foil the design straight onto the card front. No matter what it is that you decide to make just make it your own and always remember to keep it krafty! Bye-Bye!
