Create a mug using the Cricut Mug Press and Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets

We can create our own professional quality mugs at home using the Cricut Mug Press and Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets. As soon as Cricut launched these products, I was enamored. The Cricut Mug Press takes the guesswork out of the sublimation process and the products that have been developed are so streamlined we can start a business selling our creations in no time at all. I personally enjoy having the ability to create mugs that have a personal touch and gift them to all of my family and friends. We can find cases of sublimation ready mugs and other blanks online or just purchase them one at a time.

What is sublimation? It’s an amazing technique that infuses ink directly into sublimation ready blanks such as canvas totes, mugs, coasters, signs, shirts and more. It creates a striking crisp colorful design that will not wash off, peel off or fade. On shirts and other fabrics it has a screen printed finish without the inks or the mess. On mugs and coasters and solid items, it has a professional finish that doesn’t have to be kilned or treated in any way. The Cricut Mug Press creates the perfect temperature and pressure for your mug.

In my last post, I had made a Minnie Mouse Mug using Infusible Ink Markers. If you’d like to check that out, go to the top of this page to the menu and go to my “Latest Project Tutorials”. Today’s project uses Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets. I’ll share a link to the one’s I use and I’ll also share a link to my specific design in Cricut Design Space. I find Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets are actually easier to use than vinyl. The finished product is vibrant and extremely durable with no need to protect the design because the ink is infused into the mug! This is an easy process to learn but if you’re new to this craft process, you can check out Jennifer Maker/ Cricut Mug Press tutorials. But I promise if you have a Cricut and already understand Cricut Design Space, this is a very easy project.

Supplies I Used for this Project

Let’s Do This

Okay, so to use my design, use this link: https://design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/67a90a251f4744caa5f4eba3

Place your chosen Infusible transfer sheet-color side up-onto your cutting mat and load into your machine.

Turn on your mug press and it will light up and beep at you when it’s ready. Okay, once we have our mug wrap weeded and ready, wrap it around the mug very snug. The tackiness from the transfer sheet will hold it onto the mug but if you don’t completely trust it you can use a bit of heat resistant tape to ensure the wrap stays in place as we heat it. Place the mug into your ready mug press and push down the lever. This puts the correct amount of pressure and the correct amount of heat for your mug. You’ll see the lights light up one at a time and then the machine will beep at you when it’s time to remove the mug. CAREFULLY remove the mug by the handle. Remember the mug press gets really really hot. Place your mug onto a heat resistant surface to cool down. I give my mugs at least 20 minutes to cool down. Remove and discard the wrap to reveal that impressively vivid color and crisp image! Your mug is complete!

Thank you for joining me today at Kelli’s Kraft Studio. You can use the link to my Cricut design and make this exact mug or you can use this tutorial as a guide to creating your own mug design. In the “image Search” on the canvas of CDS, look up 15 oz mug wraps and you’ll see how many there are to choose from. Choose one of the plain ones if you wish to create your own design. Once you’ve made a couple of mugs, you will realize how quick and simple it is to make them if you ever wish to sell them. I love Cricut Design Space and all of the Cricut products. I hope you find this post helpful and create something lovely! Just remember to make it your own and always keep it krafty!
