Surprise! It’s a Card Within a Card!
Hello and welcome to my studio! I’m so happy you are here today! Because I just can’t wait to share with you this surprisingly fabulous fun fold card! The surprise is that it’s a card within a card!
And this fun fold card is definitely full of fun elements. The outer or first card is a sort of open gate fold boasting a delightful slider element that holds the gate fold closed. Open it up to reveal the inner or second top fold card! I mean, how fun is that?
Also, for this card, I used the incredibly fun “Poppin’ By” stamp and die set from Stampin’Up! Keep reading below as I’ve shared my list of supplies followed by a few simple instructions for creating this fabulous fun fold card. So, let’s get krafty!

Let’s Get Krafty
First, choose your papers. Remember, you don’t have to create this exact fun fold card. If you are like me and have a bit of trouble choosing CS colors that coordinate, I feel you. But I do have bit of a hack. And that is to look at online themed paper packs. You can either buy the paper packs (which comes in very handy) or you can see what colors they put together and go through your own paper supplies to find like colors of card stock. That way, you know they with coordinate.
Creating the Gate Fold Card: First Card
Second, trim your bases and your layers as in the dimensions listed below.
- RED CS 5.5 x 7.75” Scored at 1.75 and 6 inches to create a 4.25 x 5.5” outer card.
- (2) Bluish-Green CS. 1 5/8 x 5 3/8”
- (2)Yellow CS. 1.5 x 5.25”
- (2)White CS 1 1/4 x 5 1/8”. These are the ones I stamped the design on.
- Use glue or tape runner to adhere all of the panels onto the outer “gate” doors of your fun fold card.

Creating the Top Fold Card: Second Card
- White CS 4 x 10”. Scored at 5” to create a 4 x 5” Inner card.
- 1 Bluish-green CS panel 3 7/8 x 4 7/8”.
- 1 red panel 3.75 x 4.75”
- 1 Yellow panel 3.5 x 4.5” I embossed this panel and added a bit of decor using the stamp and die set.
- Use glue or tape runner to adhere all of the panels onto the front of your top fold card.
- Stamp your message on the inside of this fun fold card!

Creating the Slider Element
For The slider element, I made 6 layers of CS using a rectangular die. It needs to be sturdy to stand up to all the motions it will go through. You can certainly use your paper trimmer to cut rectangular or square shapes for this. If you have circular dies, you could use those. The key is to create 2 thickened layers that will be used to hold the gate doors and run up and down the card front.
So, use glue to adhere 3 layers of CS for one side and 3 layers for the other side. Attach the 2 thicker layers using double sided foam tape or foam dots or even folded pieces of CS attached to the center of the two layers. This creates a channel for the card flaps. Decorate your little slider element. This is where I used the adorable stamps and dies from the “Poppin’ By” set. Also, for the little pull tab at the top, I just used the negative bits from die cutting the film strip shapes. I mean, why waste them?
Finally, adhere the backside of your inner top-fold card centered onto the center panel of your outer gate-fold of your surprisingly fabulous fun fold card! Remember to stamp your message inside.
