How To Make Rice Paper Cards and Gifts For Christmas

Introducing Rice Paper

Hello and welcome to my studio! First, I just want to say how happy I am that you are here with me today! Because I have a few Christmas project ideas to share with you. And these projects include Christmas cards, wooden bookmarks, wooden magnets and wooden cutting boards for décor. All of these projects use rice paper! Have you ever used rice paper before? No, not the kind you use for spring rolls but the crafting kind. Rice paper is a new find for me and I had no idea what to do with it but when I saw it, I had to get some and try it out for myself. And I’m so happy I did! Now, I get to share some of these ideas with you.

Also, the good news is that you can make all sorts of things with rice paper. Things like greeting cards, gifts and home décor can be made using rice paper. It works the same way as when you are decoupaging. And the great news is that these projects are all very quick and easy to make thanks to the beautifully designed rice paper. Below, I’ve shared a list of the supplies I used to make these projects along with links to where to find them. I’ve also shared some photos of projects I’ve recently made using rice paper. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to try this multi-media technique this Christmas! So, let’s get started.

Let’s Get Krafty

Here, I used mod podge to glue the ready-to-use Rice Paper Panel onto a piece of A2 Cotton CS. Added a few embellishments and attached to an A2 Card Base for a cute Rice Paper Christmas Card!
Here, I used some of the designs from the “Candy Christmas” Rice Paper collection to create some wooden bookmarks. I chose to leave the feathery edges to add interest. I also chose to use ink and a blending tool to add some color to the wood bookmarks.

More Rice Paper Projects

These are wooden magnets that I created by simply cutting out some of the images from “The Owls House” Collection and using mod podge to adhere them to the wooden circles. Add shading or embellishments if desired. Place a good magnet on the back. Quick and Easy!
I used a piece of the A4 “Owl’s House” collection/Cabin: trim as needed and adhere to a wooden cutting board with mod podge. Do some ink blending around the edges to tie it all together . Add embellishments if desired. This makes a very unique Christmas gift!
This is from Stamperia’s “Owls House” collection/ 3 owls. I love it. Adhere to a wooden cutting board with mod podge. Gift to the owl lovers in your life! Or it’s perfectly acceptable to keep it for yourself!

Keeping it Krafty

In closing, I’d like to add that rice paper can be used just like any paper you’d use to decoupage. Also, if you want a feathery edge, use a water pen to wet around the image you’re using and use your fingers to tear away the design. And rice paper seems dainty but it is actually quite hardy. Rice paper appeals to the visual and tactile senses making it a fun medium to use for multimedia artistic designs. Also, I’d like to add that rice paper with Mod Podge dries quickly so these are a nice afternoon craft choice. Plus, I notice Scrapbook.com has several styles of rice paper so you should check out what designs are available. And I believe rice paper is a great way to add interesting imagery to many types of projects. So, no matter what you make, just make it your own. And always remember to keep it Krafty! Until next time, bye bye!
